given a visual inspection before packaging. Once the order, which includes the part or
parts, is packaged it is sent to the end customer. Now moving right to left, the customer,
in some sense, acts like a supplier. The customer sends parts back to the facility after the
part has failed in the field. The part is stored in a repair parts warehouse of some sort.
These parts are inspected or tested to determine whether or not the repair can be done in-
house. If it cannot be repaired in-house, the part may be sent to a vendor (not shown) or
back to the supplier if it is still under warranty. On the other hand, if the part can be
repaired it is repaired by technicians in a repair shop of some sort. Once the part is
repaired it is moved to the new parts warehouse. The part will remain in the new parts
warehouse until an ordered is processed requesting that part. Numbers that must be
considered here are the annual number of parts entering the facility for repair, the annual
number of parts repaired by Tinker, and the annual number of repaired parts sent the
customer
