The Tool: A Framework for Calculating the Value of AITs in Depot

Operations

Once a reasonably accurate mapping of depot operations has been completed, the next step is to

create a framework to calculate the value of AIT alternatives for Tinker’s operations. The

framework should be capable of determining the value of each alternative as well as consider the

points at which the AIT should be applied in Tinker’s processes and how the to apply the

specific AIT. Based on research, the following operations are targets for this economic analysis:

• Return process

• Exchange process

• Ordering process

• Item Relocation process

• Warranty Savings

• Inventory Accuracy

The framework is a tool for determining the value of these alternatives. However, it is based on

some assumptions. One assumption in this analysis is that the Tinker will incur the cost for

tagging items. In reality, this cost may be passed onto the supplier for orders due to the DoD

mandate. Scenarios in which suppliers or repair vendors incur the cost of tagging is not

considered in the analysis. Below is an example of how the framework can be used to determine
