Two-Dimensional Barcodes and Passive RFID: A 2D barcode is placed directly on the
asset and a passive rewritable tag is placed directly on the box when the item is uniquely
identified. The tag is removed from the box when the asset contained in the box leaves
the facility. The tag is rewritten and attached to another box containing an asset when the
asset enters the facility.

Five Step Approach
The economic analysis of AITs in Tinker’s environment will be completed using a five step
approach. The approach is as follows
1) Process Mapping: This step consists of creating a fairly detailed process map. The map
should display how an asset travels through the facility beginning with a part’s arrival
and ending with a part’s departure. Figure 1 displays a high-level depot process
mapping. Beginning from the left, a supplier may send new parts to the depot facility.
These parts are stored in a parts warehouse separate from parts needing repair. When
these parts are requested by an end customer, they are pulled from the warehouse and
