out by depot employees when an item is returned to a depot. Next to the Task column is the
Laborer column. The Laborer column lists the type of labor associated with each task. A
supervisor is assumed to be involved in every task. Next to the Laborer column is the Pay Rate
column which lists the pay rates associated with the type of laborer. Moving to the right, the
subsequent column is the Task Time in hours. These times are based on assumptions. Thus,
timing the various tasks would provide a more accurate calculation for return products using
current methods. Under this column is the task time associated with a specific task for the
corresponding laborer. The Cost/Task column is the product of the laborer cost per hour
multiplied by the task time. The Total and Cost/Item cell provides the total cost per task for all
laborers involved. The Total Cost/Return is the sum of all Total Cost-Cost/Task cells involved
the return product operations. Below Total Cost/Return is the Return Count. The Return Count
is the number of items returned in a year. Total Cost is then calculated by multiplying the Total
Cost/Return by the Return Count. The same methodology is repeated for all return product
operations involving AITs as well. However, there is some difference in the task times. If the
task is associated with the tasks listed under the Benefits/Disadvantages column, then the new
task time is calculated using the equation the following equation:
T=C(1+X) where T=new task time, C=current task time, and X=associated AIT
Benefits/Disadvantages percent
Furthermore, Return Products involving AITs have an additional category for Savings. Savings
are calculated by subtracting the return product operation cost for operations involving AITs
from the return product operation cost for the current process. A negative savings represents a
cost whereas a positive savings represents savings for the depot compared to the current return
product operations.
