Exchange
The next sheet in the AIT Calculator covers the exchange operations. The operations here begin
at picking the correct item from the shelf, identifying that item to verify that it is what it is
supposed to be, preparing it for shipment, and end at shipping the item. At the top of the sheet,
the first item in the left-hand corner is the labor type and the associated costs from the Returns
Excel sheet. The pay rates are linked to the pay rates on the previous page. Thus any changes on
the first sheet will cause the values to change on this sheet as well. The next bit of information
to the right is the Benefits/Disadvantages information from the Returns Excel sheet. Once again
the percent differences are linked to the original values in the Returns Excel sheet. Hence, if
values are changed in the Returns worksheet then they will change in this Exchange sheet as
well.
Now, move on to the Exchanged Products process. The same methodology is carried on into
this worksheet. Savings are calculated by comparing the current product exchange process
against the foreseeable product exchange process using AITs. The concept tasks are displayed in
the same format as the Return worksheet. Each task has an associated laborer, pay rate, task
time, and ultimately total cost. Once again the task times are estimated and actual time studies
must be done to get more accurate data. Similar to the After First Time Returns for RFID, 2D
Barcodes, and the combination of the two, the items have already been tagged and therefore
some tasks are not necessary. These tasks are assigned a zero for task times. Note that
exchanged products are not new products; rather they are repaired (previously defective) items.
Total Cost/Exchange, Order Count, Total Cost, and Savings are all calculated using the same
methods as before. Total Cost/Exchange is a sum of all the total costs per task. Savings are
calculated by subtracting the Total Cost for the product exchange process using an AIT from the
